Installation

Post by carsounds_dan »

Hi,
Come to the point where MicroSquirt should be getting underway.
The basics are that its a Vtwin motorbike 650cc with ignitor box run ignition and carbs.
I'm ditching the carbs, and using microsquirt to run fuel for the time being.
Throttle bodies I've sorted, theyre the standard ones off of later model suzuki sv650s. They unfortunately have a second throttle butterfly which is meant to be run off of the ECU... I'm guessing that these should be removed. They have a TPS fitted along with injectors
I plan to run the MAP off of the standard output but don't have a sensor.
I don't know where to put the Manifold Air Temperature sensor and which sensor to use.
I have a coolant temp sensor atm but I'll be fitting a new one, preferably a single wire one.
I want to try and not fit a lambda sensor but if it's needed i'll fit one.
I want to try and use an external fuel pump but as theyre small hopefully one off of a motorbike along with it's pressure regulator.
When it comes to making connections i'm all good with it..
The only things I'm gunna be struggling with is a shopping list and how to get the engine running with megatune. I'm read the manuals but I just don't get how I'm meant to get megatune fired up and generating it's own base map. Can someone enlighten me on this black art?
Cheers
Dan

Once you get to the point that most thing are wired up, the first tuning step will be to plug in the flow rate of your injectors, along with engine characteristics and squirt cycle information on the Fuel Set Up\Injection Control.

You should also go to Tuning\Warmup Wizard and set your cranking pulse values.

Then you can go to Basic Tables\VE Table 1\Tools\VE Specific\Generate Table. This Wizard will generate a guestimated map that should get you started.

The Megamanual has a whole section on tuning that walks pretty well step-by-step to getting Megatune configured to the point that you should be able to start seat of the pants or dyno tuning.

An oxygen sensor is not required, but, if you go with a wide band o2 sensor, you can strap a laptop on your bike, drive around for a while, and basically use Autotune to get a lot of your map tuning done.

Pretty much any IAT can be used. You'll just need to measure its resistance at known cold (e.g. freezer), avg (room temp), and hot (boiling water) temps, and then plug those values into Megatune's sensor calibration Wizard.

Cheers,
Paul
