Microsquirt for 49cc Honda Ruckus scooter

Hi guys,

I first heard about Megasquirt from my days working on Datsun 240Zs (I have a carbureted V8 in mine but lots of turbo guys were looking to Megasquirt as the EFI solution....)

Recently a discussion about turbocharging 49cc Honda Ruckus scooters led to my thinking about the Microsquirt again.

This is something I'm interested in, at least at an academic level. I'm interested in researching how much work would be involved in setting up EFI for this tiny 4stroke engine, if not actually doing it, yet.

I did some searches and the Honda Zoomer injector has been mentioned (the Zoomer is the same exact scooter as the Ruckus, but with Honda-manufactured EFI for the UK and some other overseas markets).

I believe that the hardest part of setting up Microsquirt for the small Ruckus engine would be adapting a throttle body and fuel injector. The carbureted Ruckus has an ECU that ties into an electric choke needle and TPS on the carb (I believe) and and most modifiers of Ruckuses/Ruckii install aftermarket CDI units to control the ignition.

I'm sure the ECU would be immediately ditched, and possibly even the CDI as well, because all the aftermarket CDIs seem to do is override the ECU's rev limiter and advance the timing very slightly.

In any case, I look forward to reading a lot and hearing what you guys have to say about Microsquirt for a small four-stroke engine like this! Any thoughts?

There's also some Aprillias that use EFI on a 50 cc scooter that might make good donors.

I knew a guy who attempted to Microsquirt a Ruckus using BMW fuel system parts, but the fuel pump and some of the other components were large enough to be rather awkward.
