Microsquirt without case and Ampseal

Hi all,

First of all Microsquirt is a great solution. We have two and both running excellent.

But I have small suggestion to Bruce and Al. Is it possible extend range of purchase option with assembled Microsquirt board without case and Ampseal harness.

Some project of Microsquirt conversion for car already equipped with injection does not require Microsquirt original case and harness. For this car installation of Microsquirt board into original OEM case and harness is more suitable. So in this case I should remove original Microsquirt case and Ampseal connector. My guess is assemled Microsquirt without case and harness cost will be decreased at least on $100.

Let me suppose that I not only one who need such option and such option can increase number of Microsquirt purchased.

That's what we like to hear! What configuration (ignition, code version) are you running?

This request comes up often and we are going to offer the MicroSquirt as just the populated board without the ampseal, harness, and case. The price different of roughly $100.00 estimated here is probably pretty close, the ampseal and case is a bit pricey as is the hand assembling of the harness.

The only things stopping us from doing this right now is that we have a bunch already populated with the ampseal. On the next board run, we will pull of some of the boards after the reflow stage of assembly (before the wave solder for the thru-hole components).

The other problem is that the ampseal connection is used to test the board. So we are going to have to make up a "pogo-pin" or "bed-of-nails" test stand for Microsquirt which will basically use pogo pins for contact to the holes that the ampseal goes into. Also, the 6-pin BDM header will need to be hand-soldered (or pogo-pinned). I just need the time to make up this tester version - it is a good holiday project...
