EDIS tach question

Post by Aeronut »

In my MGB I've used the modification posted at the end of the EDIS section with the 2 rectifiers and the diode in order to hook up my in-dash tach. This works perfectly up until 2500 rpm then the tach just drops to 0 until the rpm drops below 2500 again and it will start working again.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks!

Tyler,

The schematic calls for a 1N4746 Zener diode, which is an 18 Volt Zener diode. You might need slightly more than this, depending on the coils, your wiring, the tolerance on the diode, and a million other subtle factors (or you might need slightly less Zener voltage, for the same reasons).

I would try a 22 Volt Zener (1N4748), or a 16 Volt Zener (1N4745) if that doesn't work. Let us know what you find.

Lance.
