Ping under low boost

Post by Minami Kotaro »

Under about 5+ lbs of boost I get some ping under boost. AFR is about 11:1, so should I remove a degree or two of timing? Timing is currently retarded 1 degree per psi.

Sorry about the total newb question but I want to get this engine tuned right.

What rpm and what is the timing at when it pings.

To play it save, I would pull out about 10degrees or so and roll it back up some. If you are getting pinging, then the advacne is way too much.
If you had really safe timing and compared dynos, you could watch the power increase as the advance is increase....then you will get to an adv number where you won't get anymore power. SO you increase another degree, and another, and no pwer in being gained...then you add another degree and it losespower and my ping. The point is, if it is pinging, then you could have a window of like 5 degrees where you are over the max advance you need.
