RPM Averaging

Hi All
Have a question on RPM Averaging in MT with respect to MS2
I have generally left my RPM average lag on 100% but just noticed when I cut a section out of one of my logs the RPM varying up to 40- 45RPM on a steady state cruise condition, this was in a period where I noted my car giving minor (but annoying) surges. On the full log file it all appeared ok but when I cut the area of interest and pasted that into another file it doesn't look quite so good. This is mainly because the scaling giving the appearance of radical change but it did hi-light how much variation I have in RPM from one sample to the next. First question is this actually normal to have this much variation. Im running an EDIS unit (have factory 36-1 hamonic balancer from 5.0ltr fitted) in a bit of a funny mode, I use the EDIS to only decode the 36-1 then feed the PIP into MS2 then have MS2 trigger my MSD (ie I don't use the SAW output) hence I use it much like have a hall effect on my crank. My EDIS is in the car fitted only about 6" away from the MSD, my car has also never suffered a rest so I assume my signal must be fairly clean. Is this a candidate for reducing the lag factor to say 50%?
BTW, I have been using V2.685 S/W and have no issue with it, the car has behaved like this all the way back to V2.3 and with MS extra.

Cheers
