new to tuning. Any good books/reads?

Hi I'm new to tuning engines. To start off I'd like to say I've had 2 cars with MS including my current one. I've always had a friend to help with the tuning end of things. I suppose I never really got into it because I never had to (haha I'm lazy).

Anyhow, I've been around to watch a lot of tuning. I've played with safc before but that's about it.

Can anyone recommend books or articles to get me started? I'm reading the faq but I'd also like some books on general tuning. I can say I understand the basics of air/fuel, timing, and how all the sensors work. It's really the theories behind tuning for power and making everything smooth that I'm lost on.

Learning to tune these for me is long overdue. I understand it can't be learned over night but I have to start some time.

Thanks in advance for any help,

There's a book called "Electronic Fuel Injection" by Ben Strader that has some general information.

There may be books written for hotrodding your particular car, as well.

"How to tune and modify engine management systems" by Jeff Hartman

Gets into the theory of why you need all of the functions in a carb or EFI system. Has a good section of project vehicles with good description of each. I'd highly recommend it.
