MicroSquirt.com read only forum (Jan.15,2018)

I am just getting started creating a default MSQ file for my car and this is the warning I got when opening the config file:

C:\Program Files\MegaSquirt\Porsche 930\megasquirt200605181412.msq:Open
WARNING(03): Value from option list "freqDiv" = "INVALID" not found.

What did I miss? I am using Megatune 2.25 with MsNS-extra with generic wheel decoder option.

That message means that there is an error in the INI file or the MSQ file. Are you creating your MSQ by entering values into MegaTune and saveing them, or by editing the file directly (it's not clear from your post)? If you are using MegaTune, then I suspect the INI file has an internal error.

If you want to try to fix it yourself, you can try looking for the "freqDiv" field in the INI file and adding the value "INVALID".

I was using MegaTune only to do the configuration (MSQ file), and the MTConfigurator for the .ini files.

Which .ini files should I look? I tried both customs & settings under my car config folder and there's no freqDiv.

Another follow up datapoint that I found -

I created a new MSQ file by launching Megatune. Didn't change a thing and save it. When I re-open it, MT says I have 6 warning. One of them is this freqDiv error message.

So, it sounds like either MT has an issue with creating proper defaults? Or there is a certain field that I must configure (but didn't know what that is)?

My guess is that this is an error in the msns-extra.ini.0XX.Y, where OXX.Y matches the particular version of MSnS-E you have loaded.

I'd find that file (which I *think* was likely renamed to msns-extra.ini), and search for 'freqDiv'.

What I think is happening here is you aren't loading any default file into Megatune, you are just opening it (with zeros everywhere) and then changing values. This is a bad thing to do.
When creating settings from scratch offline ALWAYS open up one of the default files supplied in the Extra zipfile, adjust your settings then SaveAs into your Car1 directory.
Where these defaults are will depend on where you extracted the zip but possibly:
C:\efi\029q2\default_files\default-degF.msq

James, ah.... that must be what happend I didn't know I should have used one of the default MSQ that comes with different versions of .zip

I did fix it - I needed to turn on boost control, adjust the default PWM frequency then disable boost control again. That got rid of the warning.

So, a related question - now that MegaTune does not complain about anything when I open up my MSQ (which I started from literally scratch), am I safe?

Starting from an empty Megatune is a bad idea because there are so many parameters to set and very few users (none) will know sensible defaults for every single setting.

Always load the values by connecting to the Megasquirt or open a default file.

If you insist of starting from blank then use the "Review" mode to confirm all of the settings.

okay.
i have starting on a blank msq file,( i have 2 computers so i opend the msq file from a friend on the other one, so i can use the values there.
(because it was build for another msns-code and i got a hole lot for error.



i have alsaw tried using a msq file from a friend. adujst it to fit my car.
When i saved it and reopen it i alsaw get the freqdiv fault.

this happends when i installed the latest msns-e code. 029q file.

where do you get a goood default file?:)
