i have a mid '90's 454 big block that is going into a 56 chevy belair. the manifold & heads are from an 8.1 liter big block and the intake looks very similar to the ls1/ls6/ls7 type intake manifold. my fuel tank/sending unit/pump are from a '90's f-150 pick-up, so it is suitable for a fuel injected setup and pumps about 60lbs/hr i beleive. my questions is: what would be an appropriate megasquirt setup for this application...nothing extravagant, but just sufficient to get the job done. here is a snippet of information i found on the 8100's fuel delivery system: "The firing order is also new 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3 and features individual ignition coils mounted near the spark plugs, similar to the LS1 Gen. III smallblocks. CR is 9.1-1 and it uses Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI)." i have dealt with alot of carb fed engines but this is my first venture into the fuel injection realm so i am new to this stuff.

any suggestions tips, etcs.. would be greatly appreciated,

Your best bet is to read the FAQ <http://www.megasquirt.info/> and the manual <http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtabcon.htm>.

In a nutshell, your main choices center around the processor and code:

- if you are using very large injectors, and/or you want to drive the typical GM stepper IAC motor, the MS-II is best.

- if you don't have large injectors, or a stepper IAC, but need ignition control and want a lot of features, then use MS1/Extra code on MS-I.

- If you want fuel only control in a simple package, use MS-I with the standard B&G code.

By all mean get the V3 main board. There's lots more in the FAQ, etc.

Shad, I am getting ready to fire up my Vortec 454 this week, I will let you know how it works! I am using the factory intake and injectors, with a 8 pin HEI ignition, & MSII.

IT RUNS! Just hit the key and it fired right up! Didnt run it very long-just enough to hear it idle. I still have to get the radiator and tranny coolers installed. Gettin ready to start tuning!
