I have MS2 V3.0 going into a 1990 G60 Corrado. I wont be using the stock hall sensor/distributor because it is known to fail.
I do have the full EDIS package with the wheel, VR sensor, coil pack & ignition. I also have a normal Accel coil from when I had the stock VW ignition running.

What I need to know is what will perform better: The direct coil control or the EDIS ignition control. Having better performance and control is more important to me than having a simpler package. With direct coil control I still need the distributor so the spark goes to the right cylinder, correct?

It depends on how bad you want "Spark Cut Rev Control"
(as opposed to Spark Retard Rev control)
and "Spark Cut Acceleration Control" (traction control)

Aside from these 2 items there is no difference in performance .

Personally , I would go with the EDIS Module ,
especially if you are new to MS .

Later , once you have things sorted out and working well ,
you can venture into other options .

It's a big chunk to bite off even if you do it the simplest way posible ,
but you have tons of good info on the MS website , read , read , read .

There is a way that you can control your EDIS Coil Pack directly with MS ,
it does require some hardware modifications to MS .
I don't recommend it .
You would be runing wires directly from the Coil Pack inside your MS ,
this is not a good idea and sometimes causes problems with
noise and spikes , making MS do strange things .

Controlling a single coil directly with MS also runs
the coil wires inside the box , same problems .

If you want to run a separate ignition amplifier like a MSD-6 ,
MS can easily do that too .

It's always best to use an external Ignition Module of some sort
no matter how you do it .

Running a Turbo ?
Go with the EDIS Module with a MSD EDIS controller ($400.oo)
serious spark power and no Dizzy hassles , simple setup .

You can also use MS with the 36-1 wheel to directly control
COP (coil on plug) ignition ,
the EDIS module can also control COP ,
this way you don't have the worries of setting up MS to
read the wheel directly (recomended) .
