MS2 implementation question

Hello, I am fairly new to the EFI management scene. I've been doing a lot of research and am extremely interested in going the MS2 route. I've been trying to find out if I can get it to work with my 89 Nissan 240sx.

I've been told that the current MS2 setup will work, but that I would need a crank sensor? I'm a little fuzzy on this concept. But apparantly the Nissan CAS is too high resolution for the current MS2 and would require the Router. Which from my understanding comes out in a couple months (or so). I was hoping someone could either point me to a good resource to better understand how exactly this would work.

I've tried reading some of the documentation, but have been a little confused on how the MS2 can use the router for this function. Actually, I'm confused on how the MS2 itself can do any of this. I guess I'm just lost when it comes to the ignition setup in general.

Rather than describe the router board to you, why don't you tell us what the wheel looks like, and we can tell you what you need.

The current missing tooth code for MS-II and MS1/Extra works with wheels of the form M-N, where:

- M is the total number of teeth (including missing ones), and
- N is the number of missing teeth (they must be consecutive).

If you have non-consecutive missing teeth, you can either:

- wait for the router board,
- fit an M-N wheel,
- fit a distributor (if one was ever offerred for your engine)
- use you existing ECU to control ignition.

I would rather be completely rid of the stock ECU, so I'm willing to go through some extra hoops to get the MS2 to work.

The FSM for my 240sx says it has 360 small "outer slits" on the rotor plate. And then 4 larger inner slits closer to the center. (1 for each clyinder and cylinder 1 is the largest).

Sorry if I'm saying anything obvious. I'm a little new to the distributor. But I think I'm understanding how it has to work.

Aparantly I started this thread off on the wrong foot due to ignorance. It was suggested that I use a CAM CAS and a custom crank trigger together. The optical CAS wheel that I included the info about would be the CAM CAS (right?) but I'm a little confused on the custom crank trigger... Is that something that would be necessary? Or rather, would it be a good idea to do?

It was suggested that way to prevent slightly erronous ignition events due to chain slack. Thanks for bearing with me on this.

sounds the same as my skyline wheel (rb20de) :-) i'd love to see you
get that functioning with no mods :-) the picture didnt load for me,
however once i opened the thread i got the other one. the skyline
wheel has six slots, one for each cylinder, and each one is
progressively longer (not 5 short, and 1 long like the one pictured).
in both of our cases ms2 working reliably would depend on using the
correct rise/fall value. either the start, or the end of the cylinder
slots will be the same number of degrees apart. its that edge that you
need to use to trigger to provide a consistent signal to the ecu.

Do you have yours working with msefi? I was under the impression that the MS couldn't keep up with the high res CAS wheel?

Really, that's the only thing stopping me from ordering the msefi... If I knew it could handle timing on my ka I'd be all over it.
