I'm going to be picking up a MegaSquirt II for controlling my Nissan KA24DE in my 240sx. Due to financial reasons I cant purchase the ECU yet but plan to do the kit as I enjoy soldering and rarely get the oppurtunity to do so.

I'm curious as to who else may be running MSII on their KA powered cars or 240's and their experiances.

I plan to just run the stock fuel system for now, and play with tuning on mostly stock components to learn with. Once I've learned enough I'll move on to basic mods and tune for them accordingly. I'll probably try to lean out the mixture abiet compared to stock and maybe try to set it for possible gains from 93 octane, by advancing the timing on the dizzie a bit... not sure what the parameters to stick with here will be but I'll learn as I go.

I'm going to be changing my factory cams with some longer duration OE cams offered in a differant model year so I'm hoping that the gains will be more noticable with proper tuning. :)

Later I'll add ignition control with an EDIS setup. My current system is dizzie-based but I have heard of one person making a custom 36-1 crank gear and running a VR/CAS sensor from it. The ignition control is still a bit fuzzy for me so I'll leave that to the stock ECU for now and focus on fuel delivery.

Here is a pic of my engine bay, hoping that while wiring things up I'll get to clean up some things as well to make it more presentable. I've seen some of the engine bays on Honda-Tech that are amazing how simple they are.

Thanks, I'm gonna have some fun reading pages and pages on tuning and such. The VE settings confused me at first, and while I'm not 100% clear on them I do understand how they effect the tune...

My 12 valve has been megasquirted for a couple of years now. I started with MS1 and now am using MSII, with the old 2.2 pcb.

At first I was just controlling fuel. I let the nissan ECU control timing, and idle speed. so... I left the MAF sensor intact. I just tapped into the O.E. CAS, and tps wires at the ECU, and cut the injector wires, and tied them into the MS ECU. It worked great. Nissan still controlled the idle and timing, while I controlled the AFR's, Rev limiter, and no more speed limiter to deal with on track days!

Recently I disconected the maf, and used the stock distributor along with an MSD 6A to control timing. It's really easy utilize that combo with the new V3 PCB and MSII. It's just a matter of getting your timing map correct.

If you can get a hold of a O.E. or known good timing map for the 16 valve let me know. I'll give you a good VE map, and some decent ASE, and Cranking PW numbers to get you started. Of coursed every engine is different so you'll have to fine tune with a WB, and several cold starts.

My next project is a Highly boosted/ built 16valve with EDIS and 740cc injectors. I bought an underdrive pulley from EBay, then machined down the AC Belt track and pressed on the EDIS trigger wheel. It turned out very well, and maching only costed $60. pulley $50, and all of the EDIS stuff was $80... I'll share the pulley fabrication info and pictures with you if you would like. It's really simple to do.

Good luck, hope to see some more Ms'd KA's soon... -Jason M

I have had a megasquirted 12v for the last year and a half or so as well.

I am controlling both fuel and timing using a full custom harness. Edis is used for ignition, custom water jet cut 36-1 pressed onto machined oem pulley, custom vr and coil brackets. I am using the oem fuse/relay panel for all ecu, injector, ign power as well as fuel pump control.

Still running with the v2.2 board and ms1, 024s11 extra code. I will be doing some major changes soon.

BTW, I can get any of the oem fuel and timing maps you want, for either the single or dual cam. The fuel map is of little use as it is not a VE table but a target A/F lookup. Timing maps are useful though.

Or, if you would like a .vex 12x12 of the oem dual cam timing map, I have that as well. Oem maps are 16x16 but these .vex are properly scaled.

Hey deviousKA,

could you post up the SOHC .vex stock timing map.

Much appreciated,
Andrew.

yea im currently working on the SR20DET megasquirt II install...kinda got me stumped right nnow with the coilpack triggering thing, but i should get it straightened out and get some pics up sometime...good luck on the MS though. i think theres a guy on http://www.zilvia.net with the MS setup on his KA with ITB's

I'm a 240sx owner but instead of running a Ka24DE I'm gonna be running a CA18DET with the FORD EDIS-4 setup. tried starting the car last night but it seems I rushed several things and the car wouldnt start, seemed spark related.

Im sorry to hear that, I hope its something easy, as in you will look right at instantly know thats the problem.

where is your 36-1 wheel sensor?

we rushed the programing, went back and realized everything was setup wrong :D aprently I had it setup to a 8 cylinder process, and I also have low impedance injectors so that wasnt setup properly etc etc

going through it today like a comb fixing all the errors. on a good note though everything seems to be working perfectly, everything is getting power like it should, forgot the fuel return line so fuel kept spewing everywhere so we know Fuel pump is working good. LOL

Heres my sensors.

is it running ok?
I want to hear a sucess story out of you yet! haha.

I totally understand rushing through the programming, Its like you know just what you want to put in so you go fast, but then you mis some of the finer points and you have to come back through and take care of it later.

how did you wire the fuel pump control? ive looked through a few schematics on the ka24 from the s-13's and kind of got stuck there. while i dont have an s-13 to mess around on i plan on getting one and the first thing i'll be doing with it is megasquirting the darn thing. Ive been looking forward to building another track car for over a year.
can you kid of give a low down of your wiring?

"project beater" coming summer 2006. maybe.
