GammaE climbing fast

Post by bryant »

Hello All,

Just got my first MS vehicle started (VOlvo B20 2liter, 4cyl)
MS 2.2 megatune 2.25 fuel only

If I blip the gas and keep the revs up over 1200 or so it runs pretty good but if I do nothing the GammaE rises rapidly til it stalls?
Can anyone clue me in here?
thanks

Bill,

What processor and code?

Can you make a datalog, this will help us to see what's going on.

In MegaTune, hit 'Alt-L' + <enter> to make a datalog. Close MegaTune after a few minutes and the datalog will automatically be saved. It will be in your 'project folder', probably something like 'C:\Program Files\MegaSquirt\car1', with a name like 'datalog200602161303.xls'. Attached that file to a replay here.

I sit here racking my brain for a way to get a datalog off this IBM thinkpad laptop.
My home network is Macintosh/Airport usb firewire etc.
this thing has none of those ports! Not even a network connector! Can't write cd's, only reads 'em.
I hae a USB to serial connector I bought to use my ibook with MS, but I ended up buying this dinosaur just to keep in the car and not worry about. I can't figure out how to transfer that file off of the laptop so I will have to go over to a friends house and have her do it and load it up later.
thanks

Bill,

What PCB are you using? What trigger circuit (VR or Hall)?

If this is a V2.2 board, have you added the Dave cap? It really helps in situations like this. There's more here: <http://www.megasquirt.info/v22manual/mwire.htm#ignition>

Post by bryant »

Can someone tell me if I can pull a cleaner signal off my MSD 6 box. ?
(running the spark now driven by the dizzy, but not currently connected to megasquirt)
hall trigger I think
I am getting major spikes from my coil connection.
Which wire to use?

Yes it is a 2.2 board and NO dave cap yet
any input appreciated...

Dave Cap and/or shielded tach wire

Post by bryant »

So does the Dave cap modification work along with grounding the shield from the tach wire to pin 25 and on to xg1?

or is it one or the other?
I was about to install a grounded tach wire (grounding back to xg1) but was unsure about the Dave cap mod (just ordered the part for that)

thanks

Bill,

The Dave cap mod is independent of grounding the optoisolator (XG1). In most cases the Dave cap is sufficient to clear up the spikes (especially the 1100 rpm spikes, which are fairly common).

ground xg1

Post by bryant »

Hi Lance,
So if I ground XG1 today and install the dave cap when it comes, they will be fine together?

It will take a few days to get the part for the dave cap so I would like to keep working in the meantime.

thanks for responding
