Is the ignition relay to eliminate the 5v ref. on start-up, (cranking), GM HEI 7/8 pin module necessary on the MegasquirtII- V2.0 with embedded code V2.21?

Yes, but Al mentioned yesterday that he is working on some code that would allow you to use the Megasquirt to control the "bypass" pin and therefore eliminate the relay. As a guess this code will likely be out within a week or two.

I am using the latest code, and have the Bypass pin tied to 5 volts from the Vref wire all the time. In megatune, you must have the cranking trigger set to trigger return. I have the inline one pin weather pack connector near the distributor to enable bypass mode to set the initial timing.

Another alternative would be to switch it using an oil pressure safety switch like the holley one.

So, if he does get the code to work, where do we hook the bypass pin to? It still would need 5volts correct? If so, would a solid connection to the tps 5volt be enough, and would it be a problem for the tps?

Just wondering if the code for the megasquirt to control the bypass pin has been finihed?! And if so what code exactly is it, I do have an extra relay that I am going to use for now but was wondering when I can take it out and just use the megasquirt to control the bypass pin. Thanks!

I've been using the knock enable port (jumpered to SPR3) to control the HEI bypass pin for about 3 months now with my MS2 v3.0. The setting in MT's spare port config (if RPM > 300) will supply a 5V signal once it is enabled.

Removes 1 relays worth of clutter under dash or whereever it's mounted.

With the new 2.6 code coming up i'm not sure if this method will still work even with all the knock retard options set to disabled, but enabled in spare ports.... Maybe Bruce or Al can shed some light?

Nothing in the new code should interfere with the spare ports if everything is configured properly.
