Hey all, I am new to MS, I have been running stock EFI. I just ordered MS with MSnS-E loaded. Stock block, GT40alum heads, GT40 intakes. I have 19 and 24# injectors depending on what the motor needs.

What I am wondering is what base tune I should use?? Or will the base tune from MS be enough to safely get the car started??? I plan to get a LC1 WB going for A/F monitoring...

I am just new to this non MAF stuff and didn't see anything about base tune for a 5.0....

go ahead and tune with the 24's, MS is gonna adjust for whatever injector size you input anyways, might as well use the 24's. MS will make you a base map, enough to get the car started, idling, and driving reasonably well by simply entering a few things about your motor, using the req_fuel function under fuel table>constants1. PM me if you need some more help, I'm glad to offer it; I build mustang racecars for a living so this stuff is right at home for me:-)

Thanks for the info. I am just ditching all the ford EFI stuff, as it is a PITA to tune and pull the emissions stuff which I don't need. Cost as much to do that as would to get a MS box and build basic harness..

I know my heads flow more than enough to use the 24#, my intakes should soon too, then I can cam it to match the pair....

I was also wondering about that, i just got my MS done as well. I'm running a 306, with aluminum head, ford E-303 cam, trick flow upper and lower intake, and a 60MM turbo. with 50lb/hr injectors, will the Req_fuel tune still be ok for the cam etc to at least get it running, i would gess it makes it rich enough to run and then you would just lean it out as needed? And for both of us should we be looking for certain things toset right away etc? sorry for all the questions just don't want to screw up and pay the price

Yeah me too, long as I can get in the basic ballpark I can tune from there, but I don't want to hurt the motor with a tune that is not even close to start with...

ANYONE ELSE got anything?? I thought there were more 5.0/SBF people using this.??

HEH not entirely. I got a guy coming over on Sunday to help me out.. I will defnitely let you know what we end up with.

FYI - I have heard that even similar cars can have different tunes.. weight, gearing etc will play with load values and skew requirements...

Yeah, there are a few of points to keep in mind:

- the base default settings are reasonable to get started (or you can use the VE table generator),

- even identical cars have different set-ups, due to things like manufacturing tolerances, fuel composition, driving conditions (elevation, etc.), and driving style/preferences,

- you will have to tune any set-up you get, and it's not much harder to start with a rough one than a fine-tuned one. In fact, the rough one can be better when you are just starting tuning, as small changes make big diferences. On the other hand, with a set-up that's close, small changes can take you from one side of optimum to the other, and be really confusing (if you are trying to learn at the same time).

You won't hurt motor if you are methodical and work your way up in load and rpm while making sure everything's good before stepping up either. Reading the tuning section of the manual a few times is a good start.

very true man, gunna hopefully start min either tomorrow or tuesday! Just hope i have all the ign stuff all setup right. Guess i'll find out, gunna see how the mix fo my bro's chevy 350 and my ford tune works out most of the stuff shoudl be relativly the same, gunna cross check everthin with the MS tune manual etc..
