Do a right mouse on the desktop, select properties. Go to the "Effects" tab and see if "Use transition effects" is enabled. If so, turn it off and see what that does... Make sure to report back one way or the other.

Richard (Darkstarmedia) clued me in on this Friday night at the pub in Norfolk: win98 introduced these super wazoo animation effects, which microsoft turns on by default (along with the other wonderful feature of hiding file extensions in the file browser, [insert nasty comment here]), and this may be a cause of this poor behavior.

Guys,

Absolutely none of this is my doing, Richard is the one who gets 100% of the credit on this, I never would have known about it unless he mentioned it to me. My only claim to fame is that I actually remembered what he told me, so I give him a huge thanks as this has been a major PITA for a long time.

Well sorry to rain on the parade, but my windows xp machine still does it :-/
the good news is who cares! Because i'm using my win2k laptop to tune and it works perfect on that machine!

However, I do have a friend that is going from the tec2 to MS2 and I think he has winxp on his laptop. I'll ask him to try out the effects settings as well and I'll report back to you guys.
Thanks!

Eric,

It was great to get to meet you Va Beach! I decided to add an old laptop to my tuning equipment (I don't want to leave my newer laptop in the car).

This one is 166mhz 64mb ram win95 plus. I'm getting ERROR:megatune.ini:6 - The included file "settings.ini" could not be opened.

My working setup ran MT fine on both 98SE and XP, I'm not sure whats up with 95. I tried installing the DLL's you posted. Maybe I need to retart for the DLL to take effect?

Thanks
Dylan

Hi Dylan,

How did you get MT installed on the win95 box? I ask because it sounds like however you are starting MT (shortcut or whatever) is pointed at the wrong place and can't find the right files. Take a look around for the audit.log and it will show you where it's looking for the settings.ini file at the very bottom before it quits. You might try running the configurator and creating a new project, see what that does, too...

Eric,

First I just copied my install so all the config would be the same but thought the install directory would be different on the two. Then I installed straight from the installer and copied my car project over. I'll try in the .log and reinstall fresh.

Thanks
Dylan
