Re: Aprilia V-twin crank to run ignition problems on Code 3.
I spent the day yesterday further trouble shooting the start & run issues on my Aprilia Vtwin on the latest 3.380 code.
I am pleased to say that the problems have now been resolved and as far as I can tell consisted of the following:
1) As Mike ( 24c) identified the ignition capture needed to be changed from Rising cam sync to Falling Cam sync
2) The Cam tooth needed to change from the "0" (don't know why it was loaded as 0 when the code was upgraded ) to.... No. teeth on wheel - No. missing teeth ie 36-2 = 34 ... 34 worked but for some reason the engine seems to run better with 33? This number is a "declared" number so 33 is acceptable.
3) The fuel map from the previous running code & msq was massively over fuelled for the new code, found the new code running simultaneous inj and wasted spark as default , so re-calc'd and re-set the Required Fuel and made changes in (4) below.
4) Change the default in the injector setting from simultaneous to Sequential ( default in the 3.380 code is maybe Simultaneous?) also change the injector type from Throttle Body to Port Injection
5) Once running did some baseline auto tuning to the target AFR map until the engine ran cleanly ( at least at No Load ) will need to ride or dyno to tune more.
6) When loading the new code or old msq into new code, there must have been some glitche in transferring settings, or maybe I cocked something up without knowing, as an issue was found in the Accel table, where the MAP & TPS based Accel map were loaded in at a much higher valve ie min 4.5ms PW max 6-7ms PW so as soon as the Accel conditions were trigger, MS would massively over fuel the engine and the engine would die. Once reset to sensible levels there was no issue and the Engine reved out to the 11,000 RPM limiter.
7) There were also some tweaks to the Aplha Beta Gamma settings for the ignition predictor 100/80/10 and also opening up the next pulse tolerance to 50% and the timing of the injection pulses
All in the engine now starts, runs, rev out and does not stall. Lots of small changes required and no faults with any of the sensors.
Thanks again to those that helped.
Cheers
John
