Nuts, in my first post above:
after warm up are you using the 3-wire idle valve to control idle speed? If so, I am puzzled as I can find that ability in MS-II

MOPS, thank you for your prompt reply. I think we are now both on the same page, and your input is helpful. Today, I got my engine idling for the first time and very quickly came to the realization that MS-II currently has no explicit ability to set idle speed. For some reason I had it in my mind that MS-II had closed loop idle control like the Motronic system I am replacing. Then I starting reading the tuning instruction for setting idle by adjusting the VE table for lowest MAP while keeping RPM constant by adjusting the idle screw as required. At this point I was saying oh sh%$ to myself -- what have I gotten myself into. Anyway, your last post has given me incouragement that I haven't totally lost my mind, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

ok, to get idle stable you need the following:

1. stable IAT reading (ms will compensate, co if you tune it at 20deg C, it will idle higher at 8 deg C )

2. stable timing.... my engine generally incerases idle speed by 100 rpm per 1 degree of timing around idle map/rpm point. It is crucial to have stable timing there otherwise idle will be rolling

3. control over pwm idle valcve

4. tune idle only when fully warmed up - that idleudes warmed up oil pressure/temp not just coolant at normal operating temp

5. tune for lowest kpa around stock idle rpm. i'd stick on trying to 14.7 air/fuel for now. you can lean it later.

5. once you have done all of the abouve then tune your ve... shouldnt be very difficult.

cscm094,

The link should be working now (along with the rest from the forums). Thanks to MoveX for the 'heads up'!

Lance.
