I am looking into purchasing the ms-II with a v3 main board and installing it on a GM 2.4L Twin Cam, but i have a few general tuning questions. Will I be able to get much power gain over stock tune out of advancing the spark? Also would I be able to get more power out of using a higher octane fuel and advancing the spark farther?

craigm,

Generally, you won't get a huge power boost out of tuning an otherwise stock engine. There may be a few percentage points of power left, but there may not be.

The real use for a programmable controller is if you have modified your engine with a better cam, higher compression, better head flow, etc., etc.

My engine isn't heavily modded, but it does have intake and full exhaust and i was planning on taking the cat off (shhh, don't tell the government). I wasn't expecting huge gains, but I was just wondering if I could get a decent power gain out of advanced ignition. Also, would running a higher actane give any more power because of advancing the ignition even farther?
