Idle problem

Post by cashsaudio »

I had this for about 9 months and i decide to replace the msd 6a and blaster 2 coil but i have the MS out to do some major interior work and then after hooking up everything started up and then it dies I was like "huh". Now been messing with the enrichment, constants, everything that i could think could go wrong. Took the plugs out and its all black which means its rich. Sometime it will stay idling but if i give it a quick rev, then it'll die when it goes back to idle. What is causing this? I had this working perfect over the summer then put everything together within the last 2 weeks and well the weather is cold. I really need to fix this so i can get to the ice drag races. Btw, I also have a problem when it won't go pass 5500rpm what causes that? It act like its sputiering (can't spell) out. Thanks

Jeff,

Your problem with not being able to go past 5500 rpm may be due to having the rev limiter turned on. - I think 5500 is the default.

As far as your idling problem, does it occur after the engine is fully warmed up ? If so, then there may be noise on the tach input either due to the new coil or the hookup of it. Only two things changed since the summer - the weather and the new coil. If the problem occurs after the car is warm, its probaly not the weather. So you need to look at your rpm and verify it is stable and reasonable. Another possibilty is you need cold accel enrichment. If the car is warm and just left to idle, is the idle good ? Does the problem just occur when you step on the throttle ?

Okay i just have the 2.2v and I have a ignition pro from http://www.fuelinjectionpro.com which is probably kinda like the Megaspark something like that but they built their own software to use. Well I been messing with the car today and just at sitting not moving i rev up the engine and i got it to go about 6500rpm without a problem so no rev limiter is on. The idle dies at anything after warm up, rev, push the clutch in, etc. I also have a msd 8910 tach adapter. Yea its not the weather i pulled out the MAT and warmed it up by a lil heater got up to about 100 degrees didn't wanted to get that warm but after that i ran it and still didn't do anything. But I got it to idle lil longer by taking the vac line to the Throttle body that goes to the PCV (the pcv is brand new) and pluged it and ran at idle lil longer than it died. Even at rev now that it won't die but probably after a couple seconds it'll start choking then die. I hope i explained this well.

Thanks for your response.

Jeff

I forgot to tell about the cold accell enrichment its at 9.0 and the %age is 100

hm... that's pretty complicated explanation, however... getting back to basics.... it's either not enough fuel, too much fuel or no spark or spark in the wrong moment.....

i had spark issues with my MS and once i sorted them out it runs beautifully...

if i was you i'd hook up timing light and see whether timing light firess of when the engine is stumbling... if not then you are getting no/weak spark and thats your issue...
