Quick question from a starter

Post by nissan_200sx »

hi there,

i am new to the forum and just purchased the MS230-K (CLICK) and i was trying to make some sense of how to get all the software together... i saw that there is a lot of information online (tooo much to gain an overview) and downloaded the megatune220 where once installed u see the meters...

now once i have put together my kit and got it to work, i was wondering if there is anything more that i need to run it? i think i need some logging software etc...

sorry for that maybe too simple question but it is really very hard to keep an overview for somebody who doesnt speak english well like me :)
could you please provide me with some links where i can get all the software together that i need for mapping? would be very nice...

so long story made short, i ask u to please provide me with some information and links where i can get all the software that is available and needed to do the tuning...

thank you,

nico

ps: dont think that i am a full beginner :) ... i have worked a lot with HALTECH engine management, but there it was all somehow simpler... just installed the software package onto my laptop, did the wiring and went on my dyno with the car...
i hope that megasquirt is just as user-friendly as the haltech software

Nico,
MegaTune will do the actual logging of the data, you'll just need some software to review it with. There are a couple of viewers available in the download area that will let you review a MegaTune data log...

nissan_200sx,

For MS-II (which I assume you have ebcause you are posting in the MS-II forum), you really only need three programs - a program ('downloader') to load code to your new MegaSquirt-II, the latest MegaTune tuning software, and a datalog viewer.

The downloader is at:

http://not2fast.wryday.com/megasquirt/ms2dl/

(get the one called: "ms2dl104_setup.exe", click on it, and folow this instructions).

MegaTune can be found here:

http://not2fast.wryday.com/megasquirt/mt/prerelease/

and the instructions for installing it are here:

http://www.megasquirt.info/ms2/configure.htm

(the general MegaTune page is here: http://www.megasquirt.info/megatune.htm)

For a datalog viewer, there are a few out there. I currently use MegaLogViewer, which you can get here:

200sx: do you run a ca18det engine? i have trouble figuring out how to deal with the multicoil, direct fire system.
Can anyone help me with this. I really wanna try the megasquirt, but i don't wanna buy it before i know how to use it along with the original setup on the engine. I don't want to install a dizzy, when te original setup is as genius as it is.

thank you for your helpful comments... good to find a forum where people are so kind to help...
i am currently doing a lot :RTFM: in order to read all the stuff...

@nissanN13:

i am still assembling the MSII, and am not so sure of it myself whether it will work... i have received a helpful email from a member of this forum saying:

"one way that COP (coil on plug) can be done with MS (megasquirt). at
present the MSII cant do COP, but msnse can do 4 cyl COP, and 6 cyl
wasted spark. "

i just have to figure out where i can get this msnse and what this is :) ... i think that it could be made to work with the CA, but not with the RB yet, cause the RB has 6 COP and dont think that the software supports that (yet)...

but all in all, in order to use the MS, one has to do A LOT of :RTFM: ... :( ...

msnse is software that runs on ms1, what you need to do is order the ms1 chip from someone. not sure if any distributors sell chust the ms1 chip or not, but theres bound to be a new ms2 user who will sell you one.

by assembling your ms2, i assume that you mean assembling your v3 board?

the boards (v3 or v2.2) will work with either MS (ms1 or msII).

COP

I have just bought the ford EDIS system, just to get rid of the COP problem. I have spoken to a few people running the EDIS, and it seems to be running just fine.
But if i could get a hardware/software for the MS that would work with the original ca18det ignition, I would rather use that.

u recon the v2.2 will work with my msII and support either 4 or 6 COP ?

@nissanN13: i am sure that purchasing an EDIS is sure a good thing and could solve this COP issue, but i would like to keep my electronics plug&play... if i upgrade to this EDIS, i dont think that my stock ECU will run with it... :?:

no, either v2.2 or v3 will work with MS1 to provide COP using hardware mods, and msnse code...

ms2 cannot do COP for anything except single cylinder engines yet (ever?), and 1 cyl engines dont really count as COP, a dizzy would serve no perpose...
