Approval of concept - MicroS Module + add-ons in one case

Hello,

my name is Alex.
I am located in Germany and i want to MicroSquirt my '76 Dodge truck 8)

To do that i would need a little advice and - if possible - approval of my approach on doing this.
I've tried fuel injecting my truck using a GM TBI and a modified and properly set up GM 7747 ECU but ultimately failed because - which i discovered later - of a terribly leaking exhaust.
No correct AF-readings, no properly working fuel injection. A carb was installed to get it back on the road and the exhaust leak was never noticed until i got my hands on a F.A.S.T EZ-EFI V1.
Turns out, it's not easy and there's no way to reach my goals with this system. And yes, the exhaust is fixed.

My concept to get rid of the EZ-EFI and achieve a properly working FI is the following:

- aquire a MicroSquirt module
- keep the F.A.S.T throttle body with all installed GM-type sensors (TPS, IAT, MAP, CLT) and injectors (4x LS3/LS7 style, EV6 connector, high impedance) and four-pin stepper IAC (GM aswell)
- keep the Bosch LSU 4.2 wideband EGO that the EZ-EFI came with using a wideband controller from breitband-lambda.de: http://www.breitband-lambda.de/en/products.html
- recover the stepper IAC functionality using the add-on-module from efisource.com: http://www.efisource.com/shop/microsqui ... r-adapter/
- aquire and rip the guts out of a Renault Twingos ECU case (made by Sagem or Siemens, ECU type "Sirius 32", sealed, big connector, cheap!) and stuff it all in there exactly like this guy did: http://www.microsquirt.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=25166
This is also the guy i got the idea for the ECU case from.

- keep the homegrown ignition system (consisting of the Dodge magnetic pickup, a GM HEI module and a Ford e-coil)
- keep the system cheap. Or let's rather say "in the budget"
- keep it "turbo compatible". Someday this truck will get a turbo setup for increased volumetric efficiency. (With 8.5:1 compression ratio it begs for one :mrgreen: )

The system is planned to be a fuel only system until i make it run as nice and smooth and economically as possible (i already installed a 5-speed overdrive trans in the truck to get the mechanical side up to par).
In the next step i plan to make the MicroSquirt control the ignition too. I am not deep enough into the possible routes to do that and i don't want to rip open two cans of worms (no offense meant) at once.


As far as my research goes, all circuit boards i want to use fit into the ECU case i want to use.
I have a good soldering iron and i know how to handle it. I have all the tools and know-how necessary to build a proper wiring harness. I have a Laptop computer at my hands :mrgreen:



Now my questions are, is this a good concept that will most likely work or is there some hook i missed? Component heat maybe?
I am also not sure if the MicroSquirt can handle the four injectors because i could not find out how many injector banks it supports.

Any input is highly appreciated! This is the third try on fuel injection in this truck and i want it to work this time.

Hi Alex,

Nothing you are saying or proposing is stopping you using a Module board, and the only limitation re 4 sequential injectors, is the B&G code (this forum) and the standard board only has two injector channels available. It can drive 2 banks of 4 injectors of the right impedance. Whether this is OK for your Dodge truck will require more reading. :)
As far as I know, B&G code does not support more than 2 injection channels, even through WLED or ALED outputs.

If you use MSExtra (different forum, then you can use this or this to upgrade to 4 injection channels.

Hope this helps, and if you do intend to use the MSExtra firmware you must use the MSExtra forum in the future.

At the time i run four injectors in bank to bank batch mode (at least i believe the EZ-EFI does it that way), as far as i understand the MicroSquirt Module now i can keep it that way
and use both injector banks for every two injectors.

I just placed my order for the MicroSquirt Module and the other parts.

Without meaning to pick someone else's pocket, the EFISource PWM / Stepper controller can ONLY be used with the Extra code, and also uses at least one spare ADC pin as well as the Idle pin; it is possible to use WLED (or nothing) for the 3rd wire. I have a prototype design (ready to ship to my tester, who is of course in mid-move *sigh*) that uses just the PWM idle signal, and can be used with any code.

And sure - there is nothing stopping you from running batch injection with 2 injectors per channel.
