unknown pinouts on MAP sensor

Post by precat »

I have a Keihin map sensor ( I don't know the model#) with three pins that I don't know what function the pins are for. Will I cause damage to the Microsquirt V3 or the MAP sensor if I move the wires around on the pins until I get a correct reading?

precat,

The MicroSquirt sensor's input should have a signal that is in the 0 to 5 Volt range. It should not be much outside that range, or you will damage the controller.

I suspect the sensor won't like having voltage applied randomly to pins. And that may depend to some degree on whether it is a 5V or 12V supply to the sensor. If you want to test it anyhow, don't connect it to MicroSquirt, just apply a 5/12V supply and ground to two of the pins, and check with a DMM on the third pin for a voltage signal that varies reliably with vacuum/pressure (suck/blow). Often on 3-pin sensors the signal is on the middle pin. You may get lucky, or you may fry the sensor, but at least you won't blow the MicroSquirt because it isn't connected.

Lance.
