Can't get AFR to read. O2 WB sensor is good.

Post by jaeger22 »

Ok another newbe question here. I am stuck again. I have an innovate WB O2 sensor and Gauge that has been working fine for months. But I cant get MS to play with it. I thought this would be the simplest hook of all, one wire, and the O2 sensor is one of the ones that is listed in TS, but so far no luck. I expect it is another set up issue but I have about run out of things to try. The sensor is good, I get good readings on the wire but the gauge seems t be frozen at around 19 AFR. If I calibrate and select different sensors or manually set up a range, it changes to a new set point on the gauge but never moves after that.
Here is my set up. MicroSqurit V3.0, running V3.77 SW. TunerStudio latest version and registered.
The target is a 2008 Suzuki DR650 single cylinder motorcycle. I am going for fuel only, at least for now.
I have RPM, CLT, IAT, TPS, and MAP hooked up and all read fine. I have WB LM-1 selected for EGO setup and for the calibration table.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
John

I'm not sure how the Innovate gauges work, but do you have an actual WB O2 controller, or just the sensor? Narrow-band sensors can be wired directly to the uS input, but a WB needs a separate box.

Thanks for the reply, on Christmas even!
Sorry I should have been more specific about the sensor. I have the full system, sensor, gauge and controller and have had it for some time, using it to tune the carb. It is an Innovate MTX-L Wide band and it provides 0 to 5V out for AFR 7.35 to 22.39 on the white wire out of the controller. Also I have the MS and the Innovate controller wired to heavy grounds tied back to the battery so I think I can rule out grounding issues. I am reading around 13 on the Innovate gauge at warm idle and with the volt meter I see just above 2 Volts on the wire from the Innovate controller to the MS O2 input (Pin 34 ). I believe this is exactly right. The reading I see on the TS AFR Gauge is around 18.5 AFR which would be right for about 4 volts in. But it is frozen at that reading and not moving around a little like the Innovate gauge reading.
Thanks again for the response and for any ideas you can offer. I have been :RTFM: like mad but so far found nothing that helps yet. I am sure it is something dumb in my set up but I think I have looked at every possible set up value and tried experimental changes but with no positive effect.

I wonder if this a TunerStudio question, maybe a mod could move it, and then Phil aka LT401vette might pick it up.

Real subtle. ;)
Can't be moved from the moderator end as there are two separate databases driving two different forums so complicated at best. If its a Tunerstudio question, best just to post it there.

Thanks Guys, I was wondering how to move it. I will post on the TS forum but still not sure it is a TS problem. I expect TS is displaying what it sees as I can make it change by loading different AFR tables. Just never right or any movement. I will see what Phil says, he has helped be before.
Thanks again.

Are you getting RPM? The code has an O2 sampling routine that's keyed to RPM, and zero RPM means zero sampling - a frozen O2 gauge, in other words.

Matt, yes RPM is good. I should have mentioned that. I pulled the carb off yesterday and am now in the process of installing the TB, FP, and Pressure Regulator. With any luck I will get to hear it run today or tomorrow. :yeah!:
I don't think the lack of AFR will hurt for now but it worries me that something is wrong.
Melting down my motor on first start up would be considered sub optimal.

What sort of voltage are you seeing on the O2 input wire, and what AFR is the MicroSquirt showing with it?

I should also note to avoid confusion that I was still running with the carb but did have the TPS hooked up and got good reading.
