Wiring Hall effect on OptoIn

Post by g-snoop »

Hello,

I'm trying to understand how to wiring my hall effect on my MicroSquirt but I'm afraid to do bad thing, So...

My hall effect is a VW part, and had 3 pin: +, -, signal.
I think I should do this:
Optoin + --> hall signal
Optoin - --> hall - and grounded
vref 5v --> hall +

Is it correct ? :oops:

Opto + & - are OK, but be careful, I think most Hall effects from VW are +12V IIRC, I doubt yours would be 5V. Have you got a part number to check against, and then Xref it in a "Google' search etc 8)

Thanks for quick reply !
You're right, I checked it and my hall sensor is 12v !
So it should be:
Optoin + --> hall signal
Optoin - --> hall - and grounded
12v --> hall +

Also, do you think I should do the 1kohm mod (between optoin+ and 12v) ? I read some topics about troubles with vw hall sensor, that requires this mod...

If you get high rpm drop outs/tach loss, you can put a 1k resistor from either 5v reference or 12v to hall signal. (opt+). I think it depends on the output and what rpm you will see.

Is the hall effect for crank? Is it 1 trigger pulse per revolution?

It is a four window hall effect for cam. So, it's two trigger pulse per crank revolution.

Is this the signal for crank location?

Is there any other sensors or is the cam hall effect the only one?

ok, just checking.

Your last hook up is right. Just try it, if you get drop out, put the 1k pull up resistor from 12v to cam signal.
