Microsquirt Module General Information

For engine experimenters, the MicroSquirt® PCB is offered in a module format with enhanced capabilities to be plugged into other boards. This is the place to discuss the MicroSquirt Module.

Microsquirt Module General Information

Post by Bruce Bowling »

The MicroSquirt in DIY module form is finally here:

http://www.microsquirtmodule.com

What we have done is taken the complete Microsquirt board, removed the AMPSEAL connector, and replaced this with 2x25 header (0.1 inch standard). Additionally, extra processor signals normally not brought out on the regular microsquirt, are available on another header (2x5) - usable with the MS2extra code. Also, the IGBTs are removed and only logic-level ignition outputs are available for ignition - the injector drivers are still on-board.

The goal of this board is for total DIY - its for people who want to design their own mainboard using the connectors+peripherals of their own choice. None of the headers are soldered in so that you can mount the header either on the top or the bottom of the board. In other words this board is not standalone, its a building block for your dream EMS solution.

The price of the board will be US$250.00 in single quantity and will be available the beginning of August 2009. For higher quantities and production situations talk with DIYAUTOTUNE for quantity pricing. Board comes programmed with bootloader and B&G MS2 code V2.890.

We hope this fills the need for those wanting your own custom solution. It also opens the door for many custom solutions, like USB, Bluetooth, redundant EFI, etc. Also with the CAN connectivity further expansion is easily achievable.

Have fun :)

Very cool stuff guys-- we'll have a solution based on this module that we'll be showing off soon and making available. We've been testing them here and have my 86 MR2 Turbo running on it now. Soon we'll have Matt's 95 Civic EX moved over to one as well. And while I've still got this RX7 here we might test on it too. So far all tests are looking good though. Thanks Bruce and Al for doing the new board spin bringing all available I/O out to headers for us to play with.

That sounds really good. When and where can we get the module?

I have a bunch to send over to diyautotune this week, I would suspect they will have these available ASAP.

Hi Bruce, will you be releasing a PCB "footprint" (gerber files or simular) of the Module to make designing a main board easier. I was thinking gerber files for the PCB which just has the Headers and mounting holes on it in the correct locations. That way the files could be imported into a PCB CADD package and a main board can be designed without having to measure up the module.

Regards,

Daniel.

There's a GIF with dimensions on the main page:

Our boards just used these dimensions copied into our CAD program by hand.

Are you able to route signals on an imported Gerber footprint?

Hi Bruce, I will have to check, But it is probably just as easy to manually enter it as Matt has shown.

Thanks,

Daniel.
