Cranking pulse widths

Post by pommie02 »

I know i am more than likely missing the plot here..
but it doesnt matter what pulse width i enter my bike still wont start from cold, once started it will start but i have to open the throttle.
i have power during cranking, i have set the correct required fuel, its fuel only.
i am using the ten point table, should i go two point ?
can i enter a figure higher than my required fuel ?
could it be my ve table is to far out ?

Is it a fuel problem or an air problem?

You said you have to open the throttle to get it to start. I take it you've adjusted the idle once it was running, but it won't start with the butterflies in that position? It could be that the engine needs more air when starting. Is there some form of fast idle valve or solenoid on that throttle body set?

On the fuel side, what do you have your priming pulses set to?

no idle valve...just butterflies.
the priming pulsewidths are 2 ms.
i thought these didnt matter, these are just to bleed the air out of the system ?

They have effect on my bike...

If you have enough fuel primed into the the intake, that should get you started. Why not try 10ms or so and see if that helps starting?

I have put the newly cleaned injectors in this morning...and guess what....it started.
and ran....
it won't start unaided when warm...
is it better to tune the ve table first and then sort out the enrichments and cranking pulse widths

Yes, if you can. Having a good VE table to "land in" will make starting a lot easier.
