ka24e Dizzy Questions

Post by jburgess »

hey guys i found out that my stock ka24e dizzy will work with MSv3... but i need some help. i only have 3 wires left to run o2, coil, and dizzy

the ka24e dizzy uses 2x LED optical sensors on seperate wires.
dizzy has total of 4 wires:

white wire - power
black wire - ground
red wire - 180 or 1 degree sensor????
green wire - 180 or 1 degree sensor???

i cant find which wire is the 180 degree sensor cuase thats the wire i need????????
Also how to run all the wires? and the coil? to make MS work... im sure some of you have ran KA's before on MS so give me a hand.

i also heard that you need to run a pullup to make the dizzy 12v is this for the power wire or the wire that i run to DB37 #24.... or do i not have to worry bout it

let me know everything will help thanks Jordan

Do you have a schematic for your setup? If it was drawn out in a diagram I may be a little more helpful. I personally haven't seen that setup but can offer some advice with the pull up resistor when you get to that step. If and when you test for an input signal and it doesn't work, install the resistor as described in the "distributor pickup" section under "Megasquirt II". I didn't know what type of signal my Hall sensor put out until I ran all the tests and tried the pull up resistor. I knew something didn't work right when I didn't see any RPM movement on the Megatune RPM gauge.

Hook up the power and ground and check the output wires with a voltmeter. One is going to go to 5v every 90 degrees when you spin the distributor and the other is every 1 degree. Even if you hook it up wrong (like I did) it is an easy fix to swap to the other wire. My Sentra has different colors so I can't really help you there. You do need a pullup resistor on the input. You can use either 12V or 5V for that. I just used the proto area for this. I suppose you could also do it in the wiring harness too.

i checked a wiring diagram but it didnt give me the colors of wires that i have... it said that the green/blk wire went to 180 crank angle (4 window) and the green/yellow wire went to the tach signal (1 degree)

but i have
red - power
green - ?
white or yellow - ?
black _ ground

do you think green/blk would translate to the green wire on my system, the diagram was for a 89- 90 240sx... mine is 89 but colors dont match up... i will try to use a voltmeter but i dont have one so ill need to borrow one...thanks guys let me know whatelse ya think

also cant i just tap into the Fuel Pump relay for a 12v signal for my distributor power? like red wire to 12v relay then to MS? instead of using a pullup? let me know

Don't use the fuel pump relay because the Megasquirt shuts it off after 2 seconds. Then you won't get a signal. Either hook it up in the PCB or use the power to the CAS. I'd try the green wire. If Megatune shows like 12000 rpms while cranking, it is the wrong wire. :D

i tryed using the voltmeter and it weasnt as accurate as i thought it would be...but the green wire seemed to show more activity... i had it hooked up right not sure what the prob was...

How sure are you the White wire is power? I have a KA24E that I'm getting ready to hook an MSEFI up to and plan on using the stock dizzy. I hooked 5v up to red, ground to black and got the 4 slot signal on the white. However, the signal is a little odd. I couldn't read it off of a voltmeter. I ended up making a simple circuit that lit an LED through a PNP transistor with the collector connected to the white wire. Basically, the slots read as ground. That really didn't sound right to me though... I'll probably be testing out more of the wires, but I got a square wavelength with how I did it and it was a perfect 4 slot signal (with larger cyl 1 signal) and perfect 360 slot signal on the other wire (blue I think)...

Can MS use a signal that is triggered from ground rather than a voltage?

Oh, and it's a White wire, not yellow :D

I had to splice back the connector to test out my spare dizzy and was a little surprised by that as well.

Let me know if you get it working. I've searched around and to my knowledge, no one has gotten the Nissan dual opto dizzy working with MS yet.
