ignition Only MS Install - No signal from ignition module

Post by juls »

Im trying to set up my 2nd megasquirted car now, for starters Ignition only then I will look at doing the fuel system.

I am using my existing megasquirt V2.2 box which works fine in my other car.

In this install Im using a 4 pin bosch module (9 222 067 021) to convert the VR signal into a pulse and a 7 pin bosch module (1 227 022 008) for the MSnS extra spark output.

I have no other megasquirt sensors connected so there is no MAT, CTS input etc.

I have the distributor in my hand so I can turn the shaft to simulate the cranking of the engine and do not get any signal.

I wired it according to this diagram, which is a hybrid of the ignition info msns extra site has.

http://gallery.teamshitbox.com/gallery/ ... temId=4418

When i have the pull up resistor i get a faint LED signal on LED 17 (irq trigger) and when i remove the pull up resistor this LED goes off.

I have also tried connecting the distributor both ways.

I had previously installed the Wing Diode (D5) and shorted Zener Diode (D8).

Does anyone have some suggestions I can try next.

Is it because I am spinning it by hand?

Should the IRQ trigger light stay on (because 1kohm pull up resistor on pin 24?)

Installed electronic distributor and still no go

I have now connected the distributor, ignition module and coil so it will run standalone like from factory.

There is no spark but i get the needle jumping from 1000-4000rpm on my tacho as it cranks.

Suspect ignition module perhaps?

Tested with my other ignition module and get the same signal jumping from 1000-4000rpm on the tacho, and no spark.

Also connected the distributor (2 wires) directly from the +12v and -ve coil but same thing, spark jumping from 1000-4000rpm and no spark.

Well it was the distributor or coil AFAIK. Another dizzy and coil from wreckers worked a treat.

Was running megasquirt spark only and while I was setting up the spark angle it stopped.

Im not sure if i blew the ign module (was running MS dwell control from my old msq so perhaps the ign module didnt like this?)

Anyway for now trial worked so can take a look at the fuel side of things now.

It seems the "Spark Output Inverted" needed to be YES in order to run my bosch ignition module.

Taken for test drive and all seems ok, besides the need to tune the spark map.

Sweet, all good, running fuel and spark now.
