Does Alpha/N require the use of Individual Throttle Bodies?

For discussing MicroSquirt (TM) configuration and tuning of fuel parameters (including idle valves, etc.).

Does Alpha/N require the use of Individual Throttle Bodies?

Post by mspiegle »

This is kind of an odd question... it seems that almost all Alpha/N setups are done with ITBs. Is there any reason for this other than the ability to tune individual cylinders? Is there any reason why I shouldn't use Alpha/N on my standard single-throttle body engine to use a long duration cam on the street?

Thanks!

You have it all around the wrong way.... Many ITB setups require the use of alpha-n...

The reasons for going with alpha-n are
1) very lumpy cam (with any throttle body style) where idle vac is low and/or MAP reading jump around like crazy.
2) you are using ITB's and don't have a place to hook up the MAP sensor to, whether running a lumpy cam or not.

Alpha-n is not really suited to street cars, there are too many things that can change and mess up the mixture.. on a racetrack, it's ok but you will probably have to tweak fuel settings often..

Do wideband EGO corrections still work with AlphaN?
