EDIS Installed, have question

Post by wes kiser »

I got my car running on EDIS last night, and have a few questions.

1) I know the EDIS module controls dwell, but do the dwell settings in megatune affect anything (I know with the tfi module it controlled dwell, but the dwell and spark duration settings affected it alot)

2) Is their a way to check the polarity of the VR sensor prior to installation? I had blue to blue and it wouldn't work. Switch polarity and it worked. Just curious if there was another method (that doesn't involve a scope) besided trial and error.

THanks.

AFAIK the dwell settings in MT does not affect it. I'm not running EDIS now so I can't check and don't recall offhand. As far as VR testing - hook your VOM to the sensor and place a ferrous object on the sensor face. Pull the object away rapidly and you should see a negative pulse when probed on the correct wires. :D

I have another issue, that just started after I converted to EDIS. Imediately after startup, it revs up to 2000 or so like it did before, but then it will almost die and stumble right before it settles into an idle. Also, for about a minute, it will die if I give it quick throttle. It didn't do this before EDIS (was running tfi). After a minute or so, it runs as good or better than it did before.

Instead of getting the base timing exactly at 10 degrees, I just changed the trigger offset in megatune (needed about 3 degress to get my timing light to agree with my commanded timing). Could this be an issue? This weekend I am going to adjust my trigger so that my offset is 10 degress and see if it helps.

Is there any other settings that I may need to mess with (skip pulses, next pulse tolerance, etc???) Thanks.

After the car is fully warmed, if you shut off the engine and restart, does it still do this. If not, its a warmup issue; if it does act just as flaky on hot restart, I don't know what might cause that. As far as I know, once it is past cranking mode, edis doesn't do anything different during the first minute after startup. But I can see timing differences between edis and your previous system could change the effectiveness of your after start/ warmup enrichments.
