i'm new at this too

i think the only way to get the trigger angles set up is to do it yourself - the computer has no way of knowing when to fire, except if you enter these values. remember that the vr sensor is at an angle to TDC, and I don't know if teeth one and two are at TDC either, so these are numbers we'll have to find

unfortunately my crank is off being lightened right now so I don't know what angle the teeth are to TDC

triggers

Post by bens_cab »

right i found another post with a guy running an 18t aeb engine mines an agu so i tried his trigger settings car didnt fire

i have no fuel pump now and the led lights on the ecu dont flash on cranking hmm strange guess ill get my pump working first

strange but i never touched my pump probally my fusebox where ive been using feeds to the ecu oh deep joy

and my tps is running backwards so change the v5ref and signal round opposite way and they still run backwards but with lower readings

god damm cars

do you have an obd2 tps with a iac stepper motor?

Pass it has 7 wires coming out of it i tested it with my multi-meter and connected it as per instructions

im guessing the others wire did do somthing in a previous car Audi A3 :D

but in my car they are disconnected

just found this i sawpped the v5ref with signal not ground opps

Did you wire the TPS using VRef and ground? You need all three wires, signal, ground, and Vref for it to work right. If yes, then you must have it backwards- swap Vref and ground, and it should go the right way. Also- how many pins does it have? Mine has a seperate pin for the idle on/off circuit and three for the normal pot.

As for that sensor- if it's not VR, which has two wires and a toothed wheel, then it is likely hall or optical. Both produce +5 square waves that you can feed straight to the tach input of MS. Take the dissy off, then move it around and see what comes out of the signal line. If it is hall or optical, it will produce a steady +5 when a tooth moves under it. Also- both hall and optical need power to work, make sure the sensor gets whatever voltage the stock computer gives it.

If you can take a picture of that dissy, it would really help.

found this:

http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=16 ... igger+seat

the crank trigger is the same with ABF and ABA.

He's using 5/14/35/44 which, after looking at a friend's crank, looks perfect.

The space between teeth 1 and 2 is exactly 180" after TDC

The VR is exactly 90" CW of TDC

so at TDC the sensor would be picking up tooth 15

which makes 5/14 for trigger A perfect

you can probably have a look at his MSQ as well as he's ABF

you need a 3 wire tps. the 7 wire wont work. ive tried all sorts of combinations with the seven wire setup. even running resitors in line to lower the voltage. the problem i found with that was that i would get a five volt reading with the resistors but the problem was that tps would read full throttle when i had my foot about 1/2 inch down on the throttle... when a slight pressure is put on that tps, it reads full voltage....

I have the same engine and V3 board, but on MSnS-E. I'm not getting an RPM signal from my VR sensor. On my radioshack digital multimeter I can see that the VR sensor is making voltage, very small like .1 volts, but it is at least working. I tried hooking up the VR sensor both ways and it wouldn't read the RPM when cranking. Is the signal too weak from this VR sensor? Do I need to boost it with the GM HEI?

ahh but is it a hall sensor or a vr sensor. this has been a very controversial subject. cndub figured out how to make the obd2 sensors including the engine speed sensor work with the ms but i dont think he has posted how yet. i dont believe anyone else has been able to figure it out though. check out this link alot of good info. http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=15 ... sor+sensor

I just read thru all that info and I still don't know if it's a VR sensor or a HALL sensor. Mine is an ABA not an ABF so it is different, but they both apparently use a similar trigger wheel.

I wish I had an oscilloscope to scope it.
