I have played with the coolant temp ignition advance and found that it really helps with cold idle. Unfortunately for it also makes for a bit of hesitation off idle as the ignition advances. Is it possible to set the coolant temp ignition advance so that it only opperates below a certain map value ...

Sounds unlikely I know, but I hd all sorts of rpm spiking problems on my 4cyl VW install. I fitted a set of resistor type plugs and it was like a miracle cure! Runs and idles really smoth now. Worth a try for the sake of the price of a set of plugs!
