on decel i have tried leaning it out, it's currently at 9-ish VE, i guess that has to come down some more. also, it's when i'm decelerating, say in 4th gear, closed throttle, 4000rpm, it goes pop huff pop pop huff huff pop pop pop until i release the clutch or press on the gas ...

I haven't been on these forums in a while - I've been having so much fun finishing up my car and driving it around! The engine is still very tight - only 450 km after tonight's little rip. Here's some details:

1993 VW 4-cylinder water-cooled 2L ABA engine code (in 1989 jetta)
punched out, forged ...

I got it started and idling with WolfGTI's maps as a base (though I have a little bigger displacement) and after playing around a bit it idles pretty smooth at 1000rpm. It's off now as there's no rad fan installed and it's leaking water and oil a bit, otherwise, I am super duper happy.

I fixed the problem: though the coil was getting power, it was not enough. I put it on a relay with the fuel pump switch and now it's turning over. I still can't get it to idle, though; I'll capture some logs, play with the idle air and fuel table, and get back to you. Spark is set to 10 ...

Using MSnS-E 029s, MS1 V3, 60-2 decoder, single coil + dizzy driven off of LED17/IGBT, 4cyl water-cooled VW, VROUTINV is jumpered.

It's reading RPM and is delivering fuel - I can hear the injectors and smell it. LED17 is flashing. I measure 330ohms between the top of R26 and IGBTIN.

were you using the VR circuit or the Hall circuit? Europe or NA?

note:

pin 1 - red
pin 2 - green
pin 3 - black

I have the wiring diagram here. Pins 1 and 2 both go the the ECU. Pin 3 is ground.

Try putting 1+2 together and feeding it to MS / silly scope

you may solve many questions, but probably not all; I've heard that europe has different crank pickups than NA. I'd still love to see your results though!

the crank trigger is the same with ABF and ABA.

He's using 5/14/35/44 which, after looking at a friend's crank, looks perfect.

The space between teeth 1 and 2 is exactly 180" after TDC

The VR is exactly 90" CW of TDC ...
