MicroSquirt.com read only forum (Jan.15,2018)

Ive just got a microsquirt V2 used and im trying to get it to talk to my laptop over a serial port (no usb adapter ) it will connect briefly and then looses connection.. Ive tried using the boot loader and updating the firmware via the downloader program and it shows a garbled communication and fails ... Ive got 2 other microsquirt V3 ecu's that use the same serial cable and laptop no problem atall.. any ideas what to try next? thanks.

been working on it for a few more hours.. tried changing baud on my serial port to 9600 ... still no luck.. im starting to think something in the ecu is fried... it seems to power up.. it has 5v output at vref but no comms atall.
