microsquirt stopped communicating - processor ok?

I have a microsquirt Version 1.0 2007
While trying to tune - communication failed - I was able to reestablish by reloading processor code.

Communications failed again - have not been able to reestablish.

Have verified that 5v exists after the input power stage.

I cannot determine if the processor has failed or if the max rs232 chip has failed or something else entirely.

There is a six pin header on the board - are there signals there that could assist in troubleshooting?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

maxelrad,

What code version are you running? A number of things can cause comms errors, so you should check the tips here: http://www.useasydocs.com/details/connect.htm.

If after checking those you still don't have comms, I would probably try re-loading fresh code (an S19 file, like this: http://www.useasydocs.com/details/usv3code.htm)

You might also want to make sure your bootloader wire isn't accidentally grounded, and that the serial cables are not subject to a lot of noise (which can scramble the comms, and even send the wrong baud rate to the controller, effectively disabling all comms until code is re-burned).

Lance.

Thanks Lance These routes have been explored. No success. I am acquiring a BDM programmer to see if I can reload the serial monitor. Will report here on my progress.

I acquired a BDM programmer and found that I could communicate with the processor directly. The serial communication failure remained a mystery - reloading the software and using my prior settings - until I recalled that the failure occurred during the tuning process. I took a wild guess - reprogrammed the processor with the serial monitor using the BDM programmer -loaded the Microsquirt software using the bootloader - then started a new project not downloading my old msq to the processor. Apparently a (bad) msq file save to the processor had corrupted the serial communication code. This issue was confirmed as having occurred before by tech support at DIYAUTOTUNE. The Microsquirt and Tuner Studio are working fine now.

Where did you get the serial monitor program and was it an .s19 file?
