tuning with weak fuel pump ground problem?!

Ok, here's the deal. Everything has been working just perfectly and the last I needed to do was weld a swaybar into place before inspection. After doing this I forgot to put back the frame ground wire.
The car is a 4x4 so it has a separate frame and body. The battery is connected to the body and from there to the engine. From the engine goes a new wire to the frame. The only thing that takes ground from the frame are the fuelpumps. To my suprise the ground propably leaked to the frame because I took a test drive with the wire missing and the pumps were running.
So far everything was fine. After the testdrive I took a little break and was about to take another drive, but something was wrong. The engine didn't run smoothly anymore. It runned, but it kind a "misfired". If you tried to drive the car it moves ok, but it shakes badly.
I did realise the missing ground wire and connected it, but nothing got better. So, what did I break now? I lost now and if there is anything that comes to mind please let me know!
