First post newbie. Equal intake runner length for a 'Squirt.

Looking at doing a MS on my E16 Nissan and comparing that to carb setup. How important is equal length of the intake runners with a port injected system. This is in a racing application. First thought is "very, just like any engine tuning", but I'd like some feedback on it.

id love to know how youre projet goes, i have a e16s engine with a turbo and im getting crazy tunning the carb, so the options are to put MS in this engine or in a ga16...

Hmm. That plan MAY already be waylayed. I'm contemplating going with a built SR20 instead. I haven't found any data on hp for a built NA E16, so I'd have to guess at 120 ish with a autocross powerband. And that's not enough.

Hi Doggitter,

Intake lengths are often staggered for a broader rpm range - but not randomly. They do not have to be equal length, however there should ultimately be a reason for whatever lengths and volumes you choose. There are ways to change lengths without changing the resonant tuning. This is often used where space is a concern.

Hmm. I remember reading that a race team was making one(some?) of the runners on a SBC different config. to combat lean in those cylinders. With port fuel that would probably be a really small problem as their's was an atomization situation. I suppose there could also be a needed velocity fix for some situaiton... or some such thing. Probably for my beginning pruposes making them as close to equal configuration would be best.

If you're talking about the siamesed runners on the carb intake manifold then I would definitely try something else. Try to find the manifold, plenum and throttle body from a turbo Pulsar (83-84 vintage E15ET). http://www.car-part.com is a junkyard search engine. I found a turbo head (15M) on there for about $100. Also, if you're going to extract any power from the E16, you need the turbo head and a good cam.

Any idea what hp a non turbo E16 is good for while still putting out some good mid-range?

A std e16s I think in US puts around 70hp, here in south america I think they come with what you call the Euro-Cam, and The engine doesnt have many pollution controls. My FSM says 90hp and the engine comes stock in all B13, some B1 have the GA16, but they are the less.
Its not a powerfull engine!!
Now with the turbo my sentra is moving as fast as other cars with stock 140hp engines.

I´m not a "Nissan man" but i HAVE owned a 1991 primera GT, and i belive that car had the SR20 engine ?, was a 2 litre MPI 140hp engine.

Purky engine :!:

And all that with the same strict emissions rules you have "over there" (we have the same ones since 1989).
Peugeot/Citroen XU5 BDZ(4cyl 1.6litre) engine with 60-2 VR wheel decoding singel coil and dizzy spark and Magneti Marelli(solex) TBI. Msns-E hi-res 0.08f and E85(Ethanol) in the gastank.

But the SR20DE is a complete different engine. Here it also has 140 Hp, maybe you can compare it to the GA16DE, but not with an E series engine. The E series engines didnt even come in Sentras over there, they came in Sunnys and are engines from the 80's.
And im sorry to tell you that I dont think we have same emission rules, we dont have any. Here youre engine may run with coal and nobody will ever tell you a thing.
