Bad coil driver

it seems as though I ruined the coil driver in my MSII v3 board. I have been having ignition issues for quite a while and they had been getting bad enough to make the car undrivable. The problem showed itself as cutting out of spark above 3000rpm at random times. Soon, it happened above 2500rpm, then low enough I couldn't do much more than idle the car. After exhaustive check of wiring, sensors, coil, removing flux, I resorted to replacing the ignition driver on the board. Problem solved. Now for my question. Is this something that is common? I'd hate to keep ruining these things because I am doing something wrong, or maybe it was just a fluke. Thanks.

If your dwell is set too high that could do it.

There are some stickies on this subject in the ignition section of the forum.

The manual basically says to lower it until you get some misfires then raise it 0.2 ms, so if it starts to misfire at 2.5 then run it at 2.7.

Also, IIRC, I thought I read something in the manual about using the wong settings with a VR trigger could impact dwell.
