Has anyone used an emissions shop to help tune to pass emissions? I'm wondering what are the right questions?
1) Do you have a 3-gas analyzer?
2) Will you let me help you make adjustments?
others?

Well iwas able to get a shop to help me by telling them the truth and asking if they would allow me to tune while their tech ran the sniffer.
Still pay them their hourly rate
The best bet might be to find a shop that has chassis dyno most of these places also have a EGT that they will setup and you can then run the car under real load and see what is happening.
They are not cheap 100.00 hr.
The EGT machine cost is 3-5 K for one that does BARO correction.
test it first and see how it fails or passes.
Follow the tech tip in the manuals.
Retard timing, If you can raise the engine temp up when testing good thing. lean out the idle area VTE and if you need to raise up the idle adjuster screw.
Just keep the AIT cool as possible if you have MS-1.

Are you running a catalytic converter? The engine tuner I work with told me that CATS work the most efficiently when the engine is running at 14.7 A/F ratio. So if you have a cat, tune your engine for 14.7.

Yeah my car has a CAT and I did some good data logging on my stock ecu. It never ran lean. Ever. Always 14.7 or rich. Running lean emits more harmful NOx gas. I thought that was interesting. This is a newer 1999 car too which has decent emissions standards.
