Build a fuel rail out of wood???? Well actually it worked out very nicely thank you very much! I started by building the first fuel rail for my Mercedes 450slc out of copper with copper T's and 1/2" threaded connectors and 1/2" threaded to 1/8" npt brass adapters drilled and reamed to the proper size. It fit but I really did not like the look. So I purchased a piece of extruded aluminum fuel rail stock off of E-Bay. Before I ruined the aluminum stock I decided to prototype a fuel rail out of wood first.

Here is the three foot piece of aluminum fuel rail stock. I found out with the copper fuel rail that the holes for the fuel injectors had to be perfectly spaced and aligned for it to fit properly. So instead of butchering this piece of stock I decided to build a prototype out of wood first.

First I measured the distance from the ridge on the metal ring of one fuel injector to the ridge on the metal ring of the next fuel injector. I then transfered these to a sitck of wood. I repeated this for the remaining fuel injectors.

Nothing wrong with using a piece of wood for a prototype!

Use a reamer bit to finish the injector bosses in the aluminum rail stock, works excellent!, no extra honing or finishing required except for chamfering for easy installation.

I use a reamer with a very minor taper for mine, using the same rail stock.
