Danger! Irony alert, irony alert....
call me cheap but even if it would work $450 would blow my budget

I have both a 94 and a 06 vulcan 500.
I'm just joking with you, for all I know you got both your bikes for free from very generous relatives.

Believe it or not I was very hesitant in suggesting the 2-into-1 exhaust idea because I've already heard and/or read "that's a budget buster" comments a number of times as I've worked through my fuel injection project. It seems that a lot of people who are interested in upgrading/maintaining/or modifying (as in: fuel injection) their motorcycle are also very decided about how much money they should be spending on it.

I'd like to have two of my bike. I've often thought I'd like to have a second, identical EX-250 to use as a trial-and-error, experimental bike to help my real project bike come out perfect. I look in the garage and think, "Two motorcycles would fit in here."

Yeah, the two-bung, side-switching idea is probably best for your situation. I think there are others out there who've done the same thing. But, that said, I thought it would be sweet with a 2-into-1 system.

LOL yea I kinda thought that too when I said I had two :D My 06 is in like new condition. It just felt wrong hacking a practically new bike. I had just sold my project car that I gave up on because it was putting me in the poor house. I still had cash in hand and was browsing on craigslist and found a guy listing the 94 with less than 10k miles that he had mostly restored for about half of what he had spent on parts fixing it up. I though too good to be true, but i couldn't resist. I went over it with a fine tooth comb and couldn't find any major issues with it.

The one minor problem was the aftermarket pipes that essentially had no muffler. I was almost deaf after riding it home.

after staring at my bike I came up with a possible solution. If you look at the picture and imagine rotating the radiator 90 deg. you could route the two pipes in between the frame members join together down under the bike and then split back to a muffler on each side. now if only I can find a local muffler shop that will do this with 304SS within my budget. and convince myself I won't have any ground clearance issues and find a "safe" place for the O2 sensor.
