The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.
This forum is for discussing ignition setup, tuning, and troubleshooting for MicroSquirt (TM)

I have a hall sensor that uses a magnet to trigger it. It has three wires going to it, red ,black and white with white being the trigger. I have the Opt + wire going to the white wire and the Opt- wire going to ground. The voltage is 5 volts from the white to the red wire. When the magnet goes by the sensor ,the voltage goes up to maybe 5.6 on a multimeter. If I read the manual correctly the ECM needs to see a reading that goes to zero and back up. What do I need to try next? I ran 12 volts to the sensor and it had a baseline of 12.3 volts between the red and white wire and when the magnet goes by the voltage goes up to 13.04. The ignition is a sealed unit on a two cycle model airplane engine , so I cant open it up to get to the negative side of the coil to try that input. Any help would be appreciated.
My hall sensor is a 12 volt unit. Matt Cramer at DIYAutoTune suggested I wire the opto+ to +12 through a 470 ohm resistor and opto- directly to the trigger wire. I used a 1k ohm (didn't have a 470) and I am getting a crank signal.
