Ignition Drivers

Post by CraigyBoy »

I am resarching the advantages and disadvantages of using external ignition drivers to the microsquirt feature.

The system is going to be used on a 99 R1 engine, carb to throttle body conversion.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

There are no disadvantages except the cost of the drivers. The big advantage is no noise generated inside the ECU box. This is probably the main reason for unreliable tach input problems. The external drivers are highly recommended.

Do anyone know of any 2x2 coils that have built in ignition drivers?

Thanks Matt. Is this the one you're referring too, sort of a pair of 2x1 coils? And do you know if these can be triggered by the logic level signals from Microsquirt?

There are two different styles, though they aren't always in one module. They can be triggered by a 5 volt signal.
