Help, can't connect to Microsquirt

Post by jlturpin »

I have followed all the suggestions via the install manual, I have tested on more than one PC serial port and have the same problem on both machines. No connection. I have installed megatune, and followed the instructions for communication. The only thing I have wired is the 12V+ and ground.

Suggestions please.

Thanks,

jonathan

Could you try the portcheck.exe program and post a screen shot of what you find?

I don't have a screen shot right now but basically says opening port, com 1 then com 3, tries 9600 and 115200 and unable to communicate or no response from either port.

I'll get a screen shot if needed. Thanks

A few more details that might help someone assist me. I have serial connections on both laptop and desktop I am testing with, no USB to serial adapter. If I hook up power and ground and the fuel pump lead, the fuel pump relay does cycle on and off. I have the MS out of the car, using a 12V supply for testing, with only the serial connection and 12+/- hooked up. I have read all the documents I could find, and have tested the MS to the best of my ability.

I have checked the PIN out's against the wiring diagram, I have checked the serial connections, I get Voltage on pin 13 and 14 for serial connection. -10V on red (13), and -5V on orange (14), this is with leads connected to main ground of MS and the red wire of meter connected to the respective pins listed above. is this normal?

Any direction would be appriciated.

I have had similar problems.
have you tried powering up the megasquirt and then switch on your computor, even now this is the only way i can communicate.
in windows there is a program called hyper terminal. go in to the program, name it, click on the phone connection. you need to jumper pins 5 +6 ( i think) and then just type a letter...it should bounce back.
it took me weeks to sort out my problem.
go back to the megasquirt connection problem pages, there is a better explanation there

thanks gary

Here is some more information, when i try to update the code I get this. I'll try the hyperterminal thing to see what happens, and I'll reboot my PC to see if this helps. Thanks

Jonathan,

That last sequence indicates that either 1) the microSquirt isn't in boot mode, or 2) there's a hardware failure causing no communications. The fact that fuel pump output cycles (there is code running on the processor or it won't do that) plus portcheck can't connect (it wants the uS to NOT be in boot mode, which fuel pump operation confirms) narrows things down to comm hardware.

I'm not at all familiar with the microSquirt's hardware, but you need to try doing loopback tests starting with your cable then proceeding inside the uS to see where the problem lies.

It was determined to be a hardware issue with the microsquirt. I don't know if the fuel pump would cycle with bootloader grounded, but it would without it grounded. I tried several laptops with serial connections, and know that they work due to use with other serial items. I did test on my desktop as well.

EFIsource has issued an RMA, hopefully I'll have a new one on the way shortly.

Thanks for the help.
