Connection problem

Post by pommie02 »

Apart from the fact I can't get the microsquirt to connect to my laptop, I ask myself what have I done wrong ?
with the control unit wired up and ignition on..it makes all the right noises...fuel pump relay clicking, o2 sensor control unit flashes.
i tried a usb to serial adapter...didnt work. so i bought a serial card for my laptop. the software loaded, i have no conflicts according to the device manager. it says it is using port 7 !
my question is..i bought the microsquirt pre built, i cant find what version of software is loaded in to it...so would this make a difference in megatune, if i dont know the code. so do i just assume it is the latest ?
and if i choose the wrong one will this stop me from being able to connect to the microsquirt..

Megatune will complain if it thinks it's version of configuration settings doesn't match the firmware version of the ECU, but it will still connect. However, considering a new firmware version was posted two days ago, I doubt you have the latest. Since you haven't started configuring MicroSquirt yet, I would update its firmware first (with the bootloader utility), update the configuration ini for Megatune, and then see from there.

If the bootloaded utility can connect, that will narrow down the problem to Megatune configuration. If it's can't connect, then you'll have to dig further into serial hardware and configuration, and/or MicroSquirt itself for the cause.

For some reason, my laptop wouldn't connect the first time, but after a reboot it was fine.

That's because I use exactly the same comm routines in both the Download utility and in MegaTune. :)

Try the portcheck.exe that's in the MegaTune installation directory. If that can't find anything, then you've got some sleuthing to do.

i have had the laptop checked out...it worked fine on another system....
but if i jumper the tx and rx wires and do the com test.....it still says no connection !
now it looks like my ecu is stuck in bootload, the fuel pump relay does not click.
so i have disconnected all of my wiring and i will start again...hopefully the microsquirt is ok.
