Toyota supra ignition questions
i have assembled the vr circuits and have the jumpers set to it, but i made the non-points hall circuit just in case.
i would like to use both of the wheels inside the distributor to sense and control igniton and advance. should i get *error's v2 extra board for this porpose?
i have installed the vb921 but i am not sure if i am supposed to use it. the coil (msd blaster coil) is going to be fired by an msd box. do i need to build the high current ignition driver circuit?
bear in mind this is a MSI/extra processor.
thanks!
That said, this is conjecture based on my observations and experience: You should be able to trigger the MSD off the VB921 or off of one of the front panel diode transistors. I am triggering a Camry coil/igniter pair off of two of them. I had it wired to trigger off of two VB921's, but it wasn't working because my pre-built MS was wired up all wrong (one VB921 wasn't even wired to anything to trigger it). When I re-wired it correctly, I just ran the igniter triggers from the diodes because that's how most people using igniters do it, including our 4AGE20v Guru, Ken. I reused one of the VB921's to control my VVT circuit, as the 2n2222 put in there specifically to control a VVT circuit by the builder of my MS smoked the first time it engaged. Something about running an amp through a 2n2222.
The MSD will trigger off of many different types of inputs, including points, depending on which of the trigger wires you use. The VB921 should be able to simulate the points.
So, to answer your question, build the VB921 portions and try that. If it doesn't work out, use the diode circuit. You should be able to bench test it with the MSD6 on the stim.

you should be able to run a coil directly off the the VB921.
Feed (Ign) +12V to the coil (+ terminal)
take (-) terminal to the VB921
VB921 then earths coil at the appropriate time
(note: you set the ignition outut from MSnS-E to inverted)
note: a 1983 SUpra will use VR sensors not Hall Effect (unless you've changed the guts of the dizzi). You'll need an VR interface for it.
I used the LM1815 to use the VR sensor out of a toyota 22RE dizzi.
There's some discussion here about using two triggers here.
edit: just realised you said MSD coil... same applies tho.
cheers,
Charles.

i made the vb921 circuit, i figure if the msd can be triggered off of what would normally be attatched to a coil then it shouldnt hurt to run the ms like it will be attatched directly to a coil. shouldnt hurt anything as far as i can tell, and we can switch back to stock coil with no problems.
