Tach spikes, attached log

Post by nissanN13 »

System is V3 MSII FW 2.36 and EDIS4

Can anyone check out this log and give a reply on what can cause these spikes, have tried to disconnect the alternator and there is no difference. Had a lot of noise that we got rid of by using multiple noise supressors and caps. Please help.....

nissanN13,

To me, that looks lioke inteference from the spark plug wires or the coil. The reason I say this is that the interference seems to always aoccur around 5000 to 6000 rpm, it is prolonged, and it goes both up and down in rpm.

If this was mine, I'd:

- check that the tach signal wire for MegaSquirt is as far away from the coil and spark plug wires as convenient,
- check or recheck the grounds on MegaSquirt, the coil, and the engine are all perfect, and
- set the next pulse tolerance for normal running lower than it is now, probably about 1/2 of what is currently is.

If that doesn't help, you may have a voltage bias on the igntition system. To solve that, you may need to run a separate ground for the igntioon. See step 50.a.vi here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/V3assemble.htm#input

BTW, you have a lot of enginebit = 17 in your datalog, this is 16 + 1 = Accel enrichment + running. You might need to increase your TPSdot and/or MAPdot threshold a bit.

thanks alot. Will try this tomorrow.
I had alot of noise before, with tons of resets. Have put in noise supressor before MS, before edis, and before coil. Also replaced edis capasitor, and put capasitor on alternator. alså "star" grounded the engine.
But good point in this being noise from ignition, as it's the same both with, and without alternator operative.

ps: can it help to ground the MS casing seperatly?

nissanN13,

It won't hurt to ground the case, but it *shouldn't* help either, since MegaSquirt doesn't use the case as a ground path. It doesn't hurt to give it a try though, I suppose, on the chance that local interference is causing problems.

You are saying that enginebit are showing something that has to do with accel enbrichment.
upon looking at my current program, this feature is disabled. ( I am not the one responsible for programming)
Is ther ea guide on how to set this up?
the scroller is on the far left side (map based) and all values is set to zero. Can this cause these issues?
what should the values be?
