How to measure used fuel?

Post by Zendalar »

Is there an easy way to measure, or make a program which would measure the used fuel, based on req_fuel and other parameters?

People are wanting a gauge, well, if i put 20 liters of gas to tank, it would be nice to know when there is no more fuel to be used.

Kilometers one can check from the speedo.

Things that one could see from it.

MAX FUEL CONSUMPTION / hour @ which RPM and MAP
MINIMUM FUEL CONSUMPTION / hour @ which RPM and MAP
FUEL USED SO FAR
FUEL LEFT

....There was no "general" software forum, so i thought i put it here, move if there is a better place.

i was thinking about the same thing.

it would be extreamly easy to calculate fuel used.

basically:
number of injectors * injector flow rate * pulsewidth * rpm = momentary fuel used per minute

OR: fuel used per trip = total of all pulsewidths form last cranking * number of injectors * injector flowrate

i reckon it would be really easy to implement in megatune... in MS itself.. might be more difficult... as the values would have to be stored somewhere (in ram) and be displayed somehow (any suggestions ?)

with per unit of distance would be more difficult, you would hgve to incorporate speend sensor into megasquirt.

It's quite do-able.
My Honda Insight calculates its mileage by this method.
There alsu used to be a product called the Fuel Plus that would do the same task. The Fuel Plus may still be around in some form.

How to measure used fuel?

I thought there were already gages that do that with the addition of a vehicle speed sensor - at least in MSnS-E... I could be wrong, though.

if you wanted something to show how much gas you had left tho, you'd have to enter in how much you have in the beginning, and then reset it when you fill up again :)

You must also account for injector opening and closing time, which can have a significant effect, particularly at low pulse widths.
