Wont Start. Need help!!

Post by TurboGt »

I am running MS-II on a V3 board, megatune 2.25, and 2.34 code. It is in a 1987 Ponitac Fiero. The car ran great befor I choped the wiring harness, so I know all of the components are good and working. When I start cranking the car starts for a second and then dies, if I hold the throttle down to 100% and then let off the car will start, sputter for a few second then dies.

I noticed that I am not getting any rpm signal while cranking or when the car runs (if you can call it that). I have read and reread the HEI 8 pin setup and double checked my wiring. I have the purple wire with the white trace going to pin# 24 and the white wire going to pin#36. As of right now I do not have the tan wire hooked to anything because when it was conected the car would just crank and not even try to start.

Here is a datalog I took

TurboGt,

You aren't getting an rpm signal, so you need to figure out why. Did you get an rpm signal when testing on the stim? Did you set up for a Hall sensor (not the VR) when you built the MegaSquirt, and put in all the correct jumpers?

Also check that the module is getting 12 Volts (on the + terminal)

There's more here: http://www.megasquirt.info/ms2/GM_7pinHEI.htm

Lance thanks for the suggestions but I got it figured out. I was looking over my board and was reading step 50 again and found that I left out the jumper for D1. The car starts now but the idle air control valve is not working. I will start looking into that tomorrow.

TurboGt,

Yeah, it's usually something like that! I'm glad you found and fixed it!
